So this past Friday was interesting to say the least. Let me start out with saying I Love Fridays. Fridays are the highlight of my week because it’s the end of my work week and then it’s on to the weekend. I especially like Fridays when its payday. So this past Friday I thought would be exciting because it was pay day ad we were also getting a catered lunch because it is also the end of the month.
So about right after Lunch is when things turned bad. My Boss walked up to the cube in front of me and said to the woman who sits in it: "Hey can I talk to you for a second" (she said this in the nicest possible voice, not typical for her) when she say this to you "Hey can I talk to you for a second" beware because it means you are in trouble and she is about to flip on you. About 5 minutes later the young woman emerged from the office manager’s office and started to clean off her desk. She looked over my cube and told me she had just been laid off. I was like "what!" but not surprised because her as well as I knew she had issues with management and were both expecting she would have been fired or laid off by now. After she left My Best friend who I also work with text messaged me in disbelief but she also saw it coming as well.
So this is when it gets completely out of control and we definitely did not see this coming. My boss walked up to my best friends cube and said the infamous words: "Hey can I talk to you for a second". When I heard that my heart sunk into my stomach and I said to myself "NO WAY!" five minutes later my best friend walked from my bosses office right to my desk severance package in hand and told me she had been laid off. Now I was shocked and scared, for her for me. This was crazy! She asked me to walk outside with her after she cleared off her desk. I walked out with her although fearful that I should probably stay nearby in case I was next on the chopping block. I came back to my cube sitting waiting with butterflies my heart was beating so fast and I just kept thinking what I will do. I thought about taking certificate programs and going back to school full time while i look for a new job. I sat and waited anxious I could not concentrate as she kept calling small groups of people in her office. I group went in and she informed us that there had been some layoffs and that our company has been over staffed for some time. She said she did not anticipate any more layoffs but she is not going to swear on a stack of bible that there will not be any either. I was not relieved after this meeting I was mad because she laid off all the "younger people in the office" and I still feel like I am next maybe not this week but I feel it’s coming. Now I won’t be caught off guard. So TGIF???? More like TFTL (Thanks for the Layoff).

PS: I really feel for my Best friend because she is getting married in June and had all these wedding expenses. I definitely think she will land on her feet. She was just a little thrown off Guard.
